ALTRUIST DERMATOLOGIST SUNSCREEN FACTOR 30 FIRST IMPRESSIONS/ REVIEW

April 21, 2018

By Jue Douglas

Hi there you lovely lot and thank you for stopping by on what appears to be the start of summer.
So now the suns out in the UK it’s time for us to start thinking about sunscreen.
Whether you are going aboard or staying in the UK it’s so important to apply sunscreen.
Now I’m not going to lie, I had never heard of the brand Altruist Dermatologist before and after doing some research I feel I’ve been missing out.
Altruist Dermatologist Sunscreen has been formulated by Dr Andrew Birnie and David Westerbeek Van Eerten, two inspiring, ethically motivated altruists, who have teamed up to produce a low cost affordable product so everyone can have the basic right to take the necessary precautions to reduce their risks of developing skin cancer:
Their main aim is to reduce Skin Cancer through awareness, education and to provide an easily absorbed, quality sunscreen at an affordable price by lower profit margins and unnecessary marketing costs. ( £4 for a 200ml tube)

This to me sound like a very good idea as how many of us have thought to ourselves either that certain brands of suncream can be expensive and I’m all about budget products and cost definitely shouldn’t be a factor if choosing to wear sunscreen or not. Also I will hold my hands up to this point that sunscreen can be sticky and simply just doesn’t feel nice on your skin and putting it on your face would be a no go.
Just some bullet points I want to point out about the cream before I go on to tell you how I found it.
  • Broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection
  • Exceeds EU recommendations for UVA protection
  • Clinically tested
  • Easily absorbed, non-sticky and no residue
  • Daily use on face and body
  • Excellent tolerability
  • Fragrance and paraben free
  • Water resistant
With very impressive bullet point and more impressive scientific information online I was very keen to try out the product for myself.

The first thing you notice about this product is the packaging. Packed in a simple tube, it’s very low key and no fuss yet, It doesn’t look cheap looking. I love the fact there is no extra packaging such as a box and is a nice enough size for a handbag or suitcase.
I am abit of a sun worshipper and like nothing more than to sit in my garden on a lovely sunny day. This can be abit dangerous as I’m not a person who would normally wear sunscreen on an everyday basis and think “oh I’ll only be out for 10 mins”  and 2 hours later I’m moaning my arms are red. The cream is so easy to apply. You can’t even feel you have it on your skin as it soaks in really quickly with no residue. Infact it makes your skin feel softer if anything and it disappeared pretty much straight away even though the cream is white. It even felt nice enough to put on your face something I would never really like doing except on holidays. This can be worn even under your makeup without you looking shiny.
This is great for me as I’m at an age where I’m worried about the odd wrinkle here and there and the best anti wrinkle cream there is, is sunscreen. ( that’s not me saying it I saw a programme on the BBC recently.)
Altruist even promote a recipe for safer sun which is 1 teaspoon of sunscreen to the face and 1 shot glass of sunscreen to the body every 2 hours as part of the #howmuchisenough campaign. This makes a brilliant guide as I had never even given a thought to how much I was applying to my skin.
It’s fragrance and paraben free which would suit even the most sensitive of skins, even young ones. I especially love the fact it’s fragrance free as some sun creams don’t smell the best and it won’t interfere with your fragrance if you like to wear perfume.
So armed wearing my new sunscreen (which I did apply 15 mins before going out into the sun) I headed into the garden for 10mins (ok 2 hours sunbathe but what’s a couple of hours between friends).
The cream didn’t irritate or cause any redness and I definitely didn’t burn infact I wasn’t even a tiny bit red and the sun was quite strong.
Obviously I can only go on my own experience with the UK weather and I wasn’t able to test the water resistant factor of the cream but I will be definitely popping a bottle into my suitcase this year for my abroad holidays.
The product has got a 5 star rating on Amazon as well and for every purchase children with albinism in Tanzania are supported.
Lastly I want to say I was asked if I would like to try this and was not under any obligation to write this post as it’s not sponsored so all the opinions are completely my own.
I hope you have found this post useful and if like me it’s really made you think about suncare.
I will leave the links below to the Altruist website and the Amazon link in case you fancy trying some for yourself. I have the Factor 30, but it is available in a Factor 50 as well just in case Factor 30 isn’t high enough for you.

If you buy some let me know how you get along with the product.
Thank you for reading.
Until next time

  3. I use the SPF 50 version and love it. I have combo skin, maybe it's a bit too much for oily skin during summer , but normal, combo or dry skin ....go full steam ahead! Perfect for the body as well as tattoos. Love the fact that they dont come in extra packaging and the part that goes to charity is just an added bonus <3
