SHEAMOISTURE AFRICAN BLACK SOAP BODYWASH

June 13, 2020

So it seems like a while since I’ve done a post. Even though it’s only been a week or so, it still feels like longer.
Regular readers to my blog might know I’m doing mainly self care posts at the moment. It’s all about trying to make us feel a little bit better in these difficult times and what better way to care about yourself than a good body wash.

I don’t know about you but I love a good body wash. I find nothing nicer than discovering an amazing new one or a different brand that you have never tried before that you completely fall in love with. That one product that you wonder how you survived without it. So when I was asked if I would like to try out the SheaMoisture body wash I couldn’t say no as this could be one of those products.

I had heard of the SheaMoisture brand before, especially the hair products that have such amazing reviews. I hadn’t read anything about the body care products though. But with the hair products being so popular I was super excited to try out the body wash range and find out as much as I could about the history of the brand.

So you guys know how much I love a back story and this one is pretty impressive.
SheaMoisture was originally started by Sofi Tucker in 1912 when she started selling Shea in a village market in Bonthe, Sierra Leone.

By the age of 19. Sofi was already a widowed mother of four was selling Shea Butter, African Black Soap and homemade hair and skin preparations all over the countryside.
Fast forward to over 100 years and recipes have been handed down from Sofi Tuckers legacy to what it has become today.

So the brand have introduced 6 colourful collections that not only look good in their packaging (I know this shouldn’t make a difference but it so does!) but actually do wonders for your skin.
The new collection is split into different skincare needs.
For example the one I have is to restore and soften dry skin but other products in the collection are for congested skin for illuminating, energising and hydrating. So what ever your skincare needs the brand have you well covered.
So the one I’ve been sent is the SHEAMOISTURE AFRICAN BLACK SOAP BODY WASH. £11.99
African Black Soap has been used for centuries throughout Africa. I had read about it before but hadn’t had the chance to try it out until now.
The SheaMoisture’s African Black Soap is an indulgent beauty product that really pampers severely dry skin.
It’s made from leaves, cocoa pods, Shea tree bark and plantains. As well as this it’s then mixed with coconut oil and organic fair trade shea butter. It’s an amazing way to hydrate your skin especially if you suffer from really dry troubled skin.
The product also contains an Oat Extract to calm your skin as well as soothe irritated skin while absorbing excess oil. Aloe to moisturise and calm dry sensitive skin and Vitamin E which is a Antioxidant to protect your skin. Making this an excellent balancing body wash.
So how did I find the product.
Firstly the packaging. As with all the SheaMoisture products the packaging is simple yet very classy. The kind of packaging that would look great in your bathroom.
The bottle comes in a generous 384ml sized bottle and even though it’s £11.99 I found a little goes a really long way. The product smells really good and will completely refresh you with it’s amazing scent. I can’t quite put my finger on what the scent is but it’s beautiful but definitely not in overpowering way and leaves a light fresh scent on your skin after showering.  The body wash itself is a little gloopy but don’t let this put you off as it lathers up really nicely and the little particles inside the body wash really make the product a pleasure to use.
After using this for a couple of times I’ve noticed my skin is super soft, glowy and hydrated as well and would definitely recommend in a heartbeat.
I don’t suffer from acne myself but after doing some research this product is said to be amazing for acne prone skin. I can’t comment on this but it’s really something to think about if you suffer with this.
The ingredients for all the SheaMoisture range are pretty impressive and everything from the range is free from any skin nasties such as Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates, Paraffin, Mineral Oil and Synthetic Colour. As well as this all the products are cruelty free, so what’s not to love.

I will leave the links below just in case you fancy having a little look at the full range as I’m super excited to try out more products from the brand.

Until next time stay safe.
